New crafts centre opens in Belarus as part of cross-border cooperation project

July 31, 2015

A Crafts Centre has been opened in the historic centre of Grodno, Belarus, as part of the EU-funded Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Latvia-Lithuania-Belarus.
The project "Preservation and Promotion of the Cultural and Historical Heritage in Daugavpils City and Grodno City" has renovated a brick house with a basement, and constructed craft workshops in the courtyard, as well as equipping exhibition halls and an amphitheatre with a stage for folklore and cultural events.
"It will become a place for many of craftsmen to showcase their works and conduct master classes for young people," a press release said, adding the centre planned to make a permanent exhibition devoted to the various national Belarusian crafts, besides temporary thematic exhibitions.
The objective of the ENPI Latvia-Lithuania-Belarus CBC Programme is to enhance the cohesion of the cross border area through reducing regional disparities and securing economic and social welfare and cultural identity of its inhabitants. (EU Neighbourhood Info)
