European Development Days: EC looks for young leaders

March 14, 2016

The European Commission is looking for proactive young leaders from around the world to take part in this year’s European Development Days (EDD 2016) scheduled to take place in Brussels between 15 and 16 June. Sixteen successful candidates will be selected to speak on a high-level panel during the event and showcase their development work to global audiences. The Young Leaders Programme is designed to engage the voice of youth to share their views on current challenges with development decision-makers from around the world.

The applicants must show leadership and knowledge in one of the EDD 2016 topics, demonstrate expertise in their chosen field, and explain how they will represent young people at the forum. The young leaders will participate in activities and workshops organised during the EDD 2016, share their views, draft recommendations and meet with development decision-makers from around the world.

The EDD constitute the leading forum in Europe for international development and cooperation. The event serves as an incubator of new ideas to inform about the EU’s shared aim of a poverty-free, sustainable and fair world where everyone has a chance at a decent life. Throughout the past decade, the EDD have served as the voice of the international development community. It is a place where all interested parties are invited to share their views, build a common understanding and plan for the future of development cooperation.

In 2016, the EDD will be organised for the 10th time and will focus on the ‘2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development’, making it one of the very first major conferences dedicated to the issue. The applications are accepted from young leaders aged between 21 and 26. The closing date is 18 March 2016. (EU Neighbourhood Info)
