EU to promote better access to finance for green investment in Eastern Partner countries and Central Asia

June 7, 2017

The international conference ‘Unlocking Private Finance for Energy Efficiency and Greener, Low-Carbon Growth in the Eastern Partnership and Central Asia Countries’ will take place on 29-30 June in Brussels. The main aim of the event is to identify key challenges and ways forward to better align financial mechanisms with policy reforms and scale up green investments, energy efficiency and green jobs in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine and Central Asia. The conference will bring together government officials from Ministries of Environment, Economy and Energy, representatives of financing facilities active in the region, international organisations and donor countries.

The conference will focus on mobilising capital markets to finance the transition to a green economy, as well as on the role of public authorities and better use of international climate-related development finance and on encouraging institutional investors, such as pension funds and sovereign wealth funds.

The event is initiated by the EU-funded EaP GREEN programme, which supports Eastern Partner (EaP) countries in developing effective national approaches to green growth, fosters economic growth and development and ensures that natural assets continue to provide the resources and environmental services on which society's well-being depends.
