June 8, 2017

The EU-funded project "EU Support to Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Azerbaijan" was officially launched on 7 June in Baku. The event was attended by Azerbaijani and EU officials.

Azerbaijani Minister of Education Mikayil Jabbarov pointed out some important achievements made recently in the field of VET and Lawrence Meredith, Neighbourhood East Director at the European Commission, stressed that the EU has many diverse VET systems from which Azerbaijan can learn and implement best practices.

Malena Mard, Head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan, mentioned the importance of well-trained and motivated teachers and instructors as ingredients for a well-functioning VET system. Following the speeches, the project was presented to the audience at the launch by international and national experts.

The "EU Support to Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Azerbaijan" project will support the ongoing reforms within the VET sector in Azerbaijan through the provision of technical assistance. The project will help strengthen the capacity of human resources in the VET sector and help the Ministry of Education to improve the VET policy and regulatory framework by promoting lifelong learning opportunities and triggering the participation of social partners.

The project will provide assistance in developing and introducing VET qualifications and curricula linked to occupational standards in priority sectors. It will also support the Ministry of Education in the monitoring of projects in the field of VET which are funded by the EU or other donors.
