Belarus: Polack to host Energy Days ahead of EU Sustainable Energy Week

May 23, 2017

From 25 May to 25 June, the Belarusian city of Polack will host a series of ‘Energy Days’ ahead of the EU’s Sustainable Energy Week. The activities in Polack are being organised by the EU-funded PubLiCity project, which will install modern and energy-efficient street lighting in the city. Activities will include a city quest, sporting and academic tournaments for students, an architectural summer school and an online contest. The Energy Days will help to educate people on energy efficiency and climate change.

Between 5 and 18 June, there will be an architectural workshop, a lecture on vertical landscaping and a workshop to help create bicycle parking. From May 25 to June 25, the Energetic Polack group will share advice on how to save energy at home with online participants via social network VKontakte.

Since becoming the first Belarusian signatory of the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy in 2011, Polack has been aiming to reduce its CO2 emissions by 20% by 2020. The Covenant of Mayors is a global initiative that unites local, regional and national authorities in the pursuit to reduce CO2 emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change. There are currently 27 signatories of the Covenant of Mayors in Belarus.
