Belarus: Energy Days to be organised in Polack

May 31, 2018

Energy Days will take place in the city of Polack for the sixth time on 1 June, as part of the celebrations for EU Sustainable Energy Week (www.eusew.eu).

Polack’s citizens are invited to join in with the Energy Days both online and during events in the city. An online game, an energy efficient quiz during the city festival and a green ‘quest’ for schoolchildren will take place. The winners will receive energy efficient prizes. The full programme of 2018 Energy Days in Polack is available here.

The Energy Days in Polack will be held in the framework of the PubLiCity project. The project is funded by the European Union under the ‘Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects’ programme.

Polack was the first Belarusian city to join the ‘Covenant of Mayors’, the European climate and energy initiative, in 2011. The city set an ambitious goal to reduce CO2 emissions by 20% by 2020. In order to promote ideas of energy efficiency among citizens, the Covenant’s signatories hold Energy Days.

The upcoming Energy Days will be held in the run-up to the Light Festival that will take place this autumn.

Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects are part of the EU4Energy initiative. EU4Energy covers all EU support to improve energy supply, security and connectivity, as well as to promote energy efficiency and the use of renewables in the Eastern Partner countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine). It does this by financing projects and programmes that help to reform energy markets and to reduce national energy dependence and consumption. Over the long term, this makes energy supply more reliable, transparent and affordable, thus reducing energy poverty and energy bills for both citizens and the private sector.
