Young European Ambassadors meet high school students in Baku

September 28, 2017

Six Young European Ambassadors (YEAs) from the EU and Azerbaijan are meeting with high school students in Baku this week to share information on the European Union, its partnership with Azerbaijan and the opportunities on offer to young Azerbaijanis.

The meetings are organised by the ‘EU NEIGHBOURS east’ project, in cooperation with the Delegation of the European Union to Azerbaijan.

YEAs from Germany, the Netherlands, Romania and Azerbaijan are meeting around 400 secondary school pupils from six different schools in Baku.

The YEAs will present the information in an interactive format and touch upon the European Union’s history, values and structures, the EU-Azerbaijan partnership and the various opportunities available to Azerbaijani youth. The school pupils will get a chance to participate in an EU Quiz Competition and win a group prize and set of certificates.

The 'Young European Ambassadors' initiative is part of the 'Young European Neighbours' (YEN) network created by the EU-funded ‘OPEN Neighbourhood - Communicating for a Stronger Partnership: Connecting with citizens across the Eastern Neighbourhood’ (EU NEIGHBOURS east) project. It is composed of 100 young people aged 18-25 from the EU and the Eastern Partner countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, the Republic of Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine).

Over the past year, these YEAs have actively participated in a series of activities, including two editions of the EuroSchool in Azerbaijan, visits to schools and universities in other EU Eastern Partner countries and a meet-up in Brussels where they had the chance to interact with high-level EU officials.
