EU project promotes energy efficiency and green energy in Moldova

September 28, 2017

The pumpkin became a symbol of clean energy at the Bostaniada Ethno-Gastronomic Festival, which was recently held in the village of Lozova in the Republic of Moldova.

Thousands of Moldovans who attended the pumpkin-themed festival learned about organic farming, energy efficiency and green energy from representatives of the EU-funded Covenant of Mayors East project. Lozova village is an active signatory of the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy and committed to adopting an integrated approach for energy efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions.

Covenant of Mayors East supports the EU’s Eastern Partner countries in their objective to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 20% by 2020. It helps municipalities to prepare and implement Sustainable Energy Action Plans, reducing dependency on fossil fuels, improving the security of energy supply, and allowing them to contribute more actively to climate change mitigation.
