EU Foreign Affairs Council Meeting: strong expectations for reforms in Ukraine

January 20, 2016

The EU Foreign Affairs Council on 19 January 2016 discussed the reform process in Ukraine. Ministers praised the government’s efforts amid difficult circumstances and expressed their strong belief that reforms would continue, stated a press release by the EU Delegation to Ukraine.
Ministers shared their views on how the EU could best support the reforms following the provisional application of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA), which began on 1 January 2016 as part of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. The Council agreed that the DCFTA is an opportunity that requires a joint effort if the full benefits are to be felt by both sides, reports the EU Delegation.
According to the EU Delegation to Ukraine, the EU support package for the country's reform process is €12.8 billion.
