EU cross-border project promotes protection of small rivers in Belarus and Ukraine

August 28, 2018

More than 170 children and teachers from Pinsk, Belarus, and Lubeshiv, Ukraine, recently gathered for the first Small Rivers Festival, a cross-border festival between Belarus and Ukraine. The event was held in Kalavuravichy village, Pinsk district of Belarus, during the cross-border summer camp that was taking place.

The participants learned how to monitor small rivers, manage waste and use secondary materials. In addition to the summer camp’s participants, the festival also brought together residents of Pinsk and Pinsk district.

During this ecological festival, guests had the opportunity to create art installations together with Belarusian street artist Bazinato, make eco-friendly jewellery, send a postcard by ‘green post’ and listen to Belarusian and Ukrainian music groups.

The events were organised in the framework of the EU-funded “Cross-border Water Inspectors” project, which is part of the EU-funded Eastern Partnership Territorial Cooperation Programme Belarus-Ukraine.

The project is being implemented by Pinsk District Executive Committee and Interakcia Foundation on the Belarusian side, and on the Ukrainian side by the organisation ‘World Around Us’, together with the Department of Education, Youth and Sport of Lubeshiv District State Administration.
