Ukraine: EU donates equipment to enhance investigative capacities of Kharkiv police

July 14, 2017

Equipment worth €98,000 was handed over yesterday by the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) Ukraine to the National Police of the Kharkiv region. It will serve to improve the investigational, analytical and training capacities of police officers.

The donated equipment included desktop computers, forensic kits, forensic cameras, printers, electrostatic dust print lifters and IT equipment.

The equipment was provided in the framework of a joint project with the National Police which has merged the activities of operatives and investigators under one chain of command. The project is being implemented in eight regions of Ukraine, and is a first step towards the creation of an Institute of Detectives.

The EUAM was formally launched on 1 December 2014, with a mandate to support Ukrainian state agencies in the reform of the civilian security sector. The mission works towards achieving the sustainability of Ukrainian security services that will be able to deliver the rule of law and law enforcement, increase public confidence and trust, and ensure full respect for human rights.
