Police in Ukraine aim for ‘model’ standard through EU Advisory Mission training

February 7, 2019

On 6 February, the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) Ukraine launched a major training programme for police in Kirovohrad region. Aimed at engaging over 1,000 police officers from across the region, the training aims to improve their skills in general and community policing.

Ultimately, the training aims to increase public trust and improve the efficiency of policing. The intensive training sessions will take place until the end of May by visiting experts from Germany, Hungary and Portugal.

In order to ensure the high quality of the training programme, EUAM Ukraine is also providing technical assistance to the police training centre that will host the courses in the region’s capital of Kropyvnytskyi. The mission has refurbished the training centre premises with new furniture, IT equipment and home and kitchen appliances worth €50,000.

The training and technical support forms part of a pilot project that involves structural changes to police work in the region over the next four months.
