November 7, 2019

On 7 November, the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia issued a statement confirming that “there was no activation of the hotline over allegations that shots were fired in or near Koda on Tuesday 5 November”.

Koda is a village located near the Administrative Boundary Line with South Ossetia.

The Mission said that it initiated the hotline on 6 November “to seek clarification when allegations emerged in statements and in the media”.

“The EUMM maintains a 24/7 presence at the Administrative Boundary Line and has had a number of patrols in the vicinity of Koda village on the 5 November,” added the Mission statement.

“No EUMM monitors have confirmed any shots being heard. Based on follow up enquiries by the Mission with local interlocutors and Georgian authorities, the Mission has no evidence confirming reports about shootings in the area.”
