EU prioritises digital transformation for Eastern Partnership beyond 2020

March 23, 2020

Supporting a resilient digital transformation is one of the five priorities highlighted in the European Commission’s proposal for the long-term policy objectives of the Eastern Partnership beyond 2020, released on 18 March.

According to the European Commission, a strong digital presence in the EU’s neighbourhood will enable growth and drive sustainable development. That is why the EU is planning to invest further in the digital transformation of the Eastern partner countries and support the scale up of highly innovative digital start-ups in the region. The EU will also help partner countries to become more resilient to cyber attacks.

The new policy objectives aim to increase trade, strengthen connectivity and deepen economic integration with the six Eastern partner countries. They are the result of a structured consultation on the future of the Eastern Partnership with Member States, partner countries, civil society organisations, academics and businesses and financial institutions.
