EU assists Georgia with draft national strategy for agricultural extension

November 7, 2017

Around 50 representatives of international donors, stakeholders and partners of the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia recently gathered in the country’s capital to discuss the draft of the National Strategy for Agricultural Extension in Georgia 2018-2019.

The strategy, developed with EU and FAO support, aims to improve the quality of advisory services for farmers in Georgian regions by upgrading existing consultation centres.

The draft strategy was prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture with EU support, in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The event is part of a broader consultation process conducted by the country’s Ministry of Agriculture.

The primary goal of the strategy is to improve the competitiveness of the agriculture sector in Georgia by delivering quality advisory services to farmers.

The EU is supporting agriculture and rural development in Georgia through its Neighbourhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD) programme. The main goal of ENPARD, which has a total budget of €102 million and is being implemented in the period 2013-2019, is to reduce rural poverty in Georgia.
