Cross-border partners from Moldova and Ukraine to develop a new approach to promoting rural tourism

February 2, 2018

On January 31st, 2018 Soroca municipality (Republic of Moldova) hosted a launching event dedicated to the new cross-border project "Rural tourism – a sure step to increase the cross-border cooperation between Soroca and Yampol". It is aimed at developing and promoting rural tourism in the neighbouring regions of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, as well as strengthening the capacities of tourism service providers and public authorities engaged in the tourist sector.

Being co-funded by the European Union in the framework of Moldova – Ukraine Eastern Partnership Territorial Cooperation Programme, the project is implemented by IDIS "Viitorul" in the partnership with Soroca and Yampil District Administrations.

"Moldova's rural tourism needs a new approach, to bring benefits and to become attractive. Therefore, this cross-border initiative will provide a motivation for tourism entrepreneurship and will make it possible to exchange best practices so they could be implemented by the authorities in the Soroca and Yampil districts, which will visibly improve their image", said Mr Liubomyr Chiriac, Project Manager.

The project provides for a series of workshops, study visits to boarding houses, organisation of four festivals, development of a tourist map and a guide for tour operators, and even a documentary film to highlight the tourist heritage of the region. The cross-border initiative also involves the improvement of touristic infrastructure of some public cultural institutions, as well as strengthening the marketing capabilities of the participants.
