The final conference of the project “Introducing environmentally friendly pest-control for bio-protection of agricultural crops in the border areas Azerbaijan (Sheki-Zagatala) and Georgia (Lagodekhi)”

The final conference of the completed project called “Introducing environmentally friendly pest-control for bio-protection of agricultural crops in the border areas Azerbaijan (Sheki-Zagatala) and Georgia (Lagodekhi)” within the Eastern Partnership Territorial Cooperation Programmes was organized by Ganja Agribusiness Association on March 15, 2019 in Gakh region.

A group of farmers from Sheki-Zagatala region, Value chain actors, local representatives of ExComs and Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) of target districts as well as scientists of Scientific-Research Institutes and Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) participated at the conference. In introductory speech the Project Coordinator Shahriyar Babayev informed the conference participants that during one-year project implementation period the project experts implemented applying of International Pest Management (IPM) system, plant protection and agritechnical measures in accordance with organic standards, distribution of wide knowledge and skills to more than 1000 project beneficiaries through conduction of numerous trainings on the topics on principles and advantages  of organic production, organization of workshops, round tables and field consultancy services.

Director of Soil Science and Agrichemistry Institute of ANAS academician Alovsat Guliyev, Executive Director of AgriBioEkotex candidate of agricultural sciences Ali Alizade, Head of the Department of work with Farmers, Associations and Cooperatives of the MoA Araz Ismayilov and Director of the Organic Farming Regional Experimental and Resource Center of ANAS professor Amin Babayev, who were the participants of the conference, made a speech and expressed valuable opinions about the role and importance of organic agriculture in protection and improvement of fertility of agricultural lands both in the country and in the region, in stable and high quality production of agricultural products as well as in environmental protection.

The project beneficiaries – farmers, representatives of local authorities of target districts and MoA and partners from the region in their speeches emphasized that the completed project significantly contributed to the development of the agrarian sector in the region.
