EU helps schoolchildren from Ukraine and Belarus get actively involved in intercultural dialogue

March 20, 2018

On March 6, 2018, Ukrainian schoolchildren from Volyn region performed a literary and musical composition “Lesya’s Fairy Tale” based on the works of Ukrainian poetess Lesya Ukrainka for their Belarusian age-mates. The concert took place in the Palace of Culture of the agricultural town of Divin, Kobrin district (Brest region, Belarus) with the financial support of the European Union within the framework of the Eastern Partnership Territorial Cooperation Programme Belarus – Ukraine.

Through the works of Lesya Ukrainka, one of the most outstanding personalities of Ukrainian literature, young performers tried to express and convey the uniqueness of their folk customs, rites and songs, an innefable beauty of Polissya nature. Children of different ages (from 7 to 17 years old) demonstrated the diversity of their acting, vocal and creative talents, which amazed and pleased the audience.

The joint Belarusian-Ukrainian project “By learning the culture of the neighbouring nation - towards sustainable partnership and mutual understanding” promotes sustainable economic, social and cultural development of local communities in the neighboring regions of Ukraine and Belarus. Within the framework of the project, residents of Volyn and Brest regions are getting acquainted with the cultural heritage of both nations, initiating and developing a dialogue of cultures and traditions, especially among children and youth.
