Belarus and Ukraine Agree Priorities for Territorial Cooperation

Kyiv, November 21, 2014 the representatives of central governmental bodies, local authorities and civil society organizations from Belarus and Ukraine will gather together in Kiev, Ukraine to discuss common priorities of territorial cooperation among the border regions of both countries. The Joint Decision Making Committee (JDMC) meeting will take place on November 27, 2014 in the Vozdvyzhenskiy Hotel, Kyiv, Ukraine (60 a,b Vozdvyzhenska Str., Kyiv).

How to improve the living conditions of the local communities of border regions, what are the common interests in the fields of environment, employment and public health, how to promote the cooperation in the areas of culture, education and sport –these questions will be in focus of the discussion to agree the common priorities for the Belarus-Ukraine territorial cooperation and endorse the Joint Operational Programme (JOP).

The Joint Operational Programme (JOP) addresses common challenges of the Belarus-Ukraine territorial cooperation and outlines the main directions of cross-boarder cooperation programme: objectives and priorities, requirements for projects and beneficiaries as well as programme implementation modalities. The Joint Operational Programme approval allows launching the Grant Programme and officially announcing the Call for Proposals. The budget of the Belarus- Ukraine Programme constitutes 3.3 million EUR. The programme covers Chernihiv, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Volyn regions of Ukraine and Gomel and Brest regions of Belarus.

The inaugural Joint Decision Making Committee meeting is organized by the EaPTC Managing Authority – North and supported by the EaPTC Support Programme. The Co-Chairmen of the JDMC are Mr. Vadim Pakhomchik, Councilor of the Department for Common European cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and Mrs. Maya Koshman, Deputy Head of International Technical Assistance Department - Head of the EU Technical Assistance Unit of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine.
