EU helps Ukrainian cities to learn about opportunities in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency

November 9, 2017

Representatives of Ukrainian cities recently had the chance to learn about the results of energy efficiency projects in Ukraine, ways of attracting investment, trends in renewable energy and energy management principles through the “Energy efficiency and renewable energy” conference in Kyiv. The event, which took place on 7 November, was organised with the support of the EU-funded “Covenant of Mayors East” initiative.

Covenant of Mayors East expert Oksana Kisel, who participated in the event, explained about the opportunities for cities and towns in Ukraine to receive financial support from the European Union and other international donors to help implement energy efficiency projects.

The Covenant of Mayors East is a flagship EU initiative to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 20% by 2020. It helps municipalities to prepare and implement Sustainable Energy Action Plans, reducing dependency on fossil fuels, improving the security of energy supply, and allowing them to contribute more actively to climate change mitigation.
